Tutorial: Three dimensional Paper Structure

In this video I show you how to develop three-dimensional structures from a single sheet of paper. Furthermore, I explain a few basic principles for the development of 90° pop-up cards.

Using the same pattern, increased to 500% of the basic size, I created an extra large pop up card, that can be used as a “folding screen” (room divider). It is 100 cm high and approx. 90 – 110 cm wide, (depending how far it is unfolded).

    • Dear Georgie, many thanks for your comment. This is a misunderstanding. I can’t print on such strong paperboard, that I used for the big folding screen (room divider). Instead, I printed my template on several sheets of thin paper in A3 size. I connected these sheets with tape to create a large template in final size. I put this template on top of the large sheets of strong cardboard (actually, the folding screen is made from two separate sheets) and used a needle to punch small holes along the cutting and folding lines. In this way, I could transfer the template onto the final paperboard. After removing the template, I used the tiny holes to find the correct cutting and folding lines. I hope that I could help you. All the best, Peter

  • Hi Peter,
I love that you made a room divider/folding screen from a little 3D paper structure! I have many different 3D paper structures from a few years ago that I made into wall sconces (which I sprayed with fire retardant for safety’s sake). But what a great idea to take it up a notch and make a room divider/folding screen, I can’t wait to try that!

    • Hi Winona, many thanks for your message! To be honest, I had to replace my room divider after some moths with a sturdier version, because the first model (the one that you see in my video) broke after some weeks – but I am still using it and I still like it very much. I wish you every success with the creation of your own folding screen 🙂 All the best, Peter
